Of Indian origin, the plant is mainly grown in India and Egypt and is widely used in Israel as a rootstock. The tree grows well with assurgent, spreading habit and thorny, irregular branches. The light green leaves are oval-elliptic with a rounded tip. The flowers are smallish, white and fragrant, growing singly or in clusters. The fruit is medium sized and spherical, sometimes with a prominent nipple. The pale yellow rind is thin and smooth, and the flesh is very juicy but insipid in flavour due to the lack of acidity.
